UPDATE: 7th Annual Garden State Film Festival on April 2-5, 2009 in Asbury Park, New Jersey

(Asbury Park, NJ.)   MARCH 12, 2009. Just three weeks away, the 7th Annual Garden State Film Festival (GSFF), www.gsff.org, will roll out the red carpet, and light up the sky in Asbury Park, NJ, April 2-5.

Here are some HOT items that will feature some of the Garden State’s most beloved and well known celebrities and friends:

HONORING: Cultural impresario, SID BERNSTEIN, who had the vision to bring a mop top group called THE BEATLES to America. GSFF will show SID BERNSTEIN Presents… on Saturday APRIL 4, at the PARAMOUNT THEATER. On Sunday pm, APRIL 5, at the GSFF Awards Dinner, BERNSTEIN will receive the BEACON award in recognition of his contributions to music relating to the cinematic arts.

GSFF will honor JOEY TRAVOLTA with the BROADER VISION award for filmmaking dedicated to the greater good. Joey and his Short Film Camp ”Inclusion” presented by FILMlab – benefit autistic children.

THURSDAY, APRIL 2, 2009
7:30pm, PARAMOUNT THEATRE

GSFF is thrilled to open the festival with THE MAGISTICAL, its New Jersey premiere. An absolutely magnificent animated CGI masterpiece, with a message we can all use at this time, “HAVE COURAGE, BE GOOD and BELIEVE IN YOURSELF,” its presence on the screen is remarkable. Its message is conveyed by a guardian who watches over all living things, and protects them from evil. This is a special screening to benefit Film lab Presents Joey Travolta’s Short Film Camp “Inclusion” in NJ – -as well as GSFF’s after school video program at Asbury Park High School. A coffee and dessert reception compliments of Wegman’s will follow.

FRIDAY, APRIL 3, 2009
7:00-8:15pm, PARAMOUNT THEATER

Friday Night Gala Cocktail party in the Grand Arcade includes hors d’oeuvres, cash bar, entertainment by The Alliance Singers. Tickets are $20, and includes the evening screening.

FRIDAY, April 3, 2009
8:30pm, PARAMOUNT THEATRE

Opening Ceremonies – NEW BOY, Oscar award nominated short, followed by WILD OCEAN, #1 movie voted by EARTHWATCH. WILD OCEAN is an uplifting, action packed experience capturing one of nature’s greatest migration spectacles. Filmed off the coast of South Africa, this movie is a credit to “Hope is alive on the Wild Coast,” where Africa meets the sea. Following the screening, Dr. Noel Brown, of the National Oceans Academy, and the former Director of the UNITED NATIONS ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMME, will lead a panel discussion with the filmmakers, and possibly JEAN MICHEL COUSTEAU.

SATURDAY, APRIL 4, 2009
6:00-8:00 pm, PARAMOUNT THEATRE

JOHNNY CASH AT THE FOLSOM PRISON, the film that had been tucked away. Hard men doing hard time witnessed the making of the legendary album that would catapult a county singer to an international superstar. JOHNNY CASH has a long history in Asbury Park, writing his autobiography here. GSFF will have Max’s CASH BASH, immediately following in the Carousel House at the south end of the boardwalk. MICHAEL PATRICK RING OF FIRE BAND will be the entertainment. Tickets for the film are $10. Tickets for the Cash Bash, which include the film, an array of delicious food, and 2 hours of an assortment of wine and liquor graciously donated my Max’s Wine and Liquor are $50. The party location is THE CAROUSEL HOUSE located at the south end of the boardwalk, right on the OCEAN.

SATURDAY, APRIL 4th, 2009
8:30 -10:30 pm, PARAMOUNT THEATRE

TOUCHING HOME, “the Must-See-Movie,” according to actor ED HARRIS, who is very involved, and the lead actor. Written by relentlessly determined twin brothers, who knew nothing about the “Hollywood business,” but had the passion to tell their story, and write the script themselves, knew they wanted ED HARRIS to play their dad. A remarkable story, and their East Coast Premiere. Immediately following the screening will be a panel discussion with the filmmakers, and DAVID FORBES, former head of TRISTAR and UNITED ARTISTS. HARPER COLLINS has already done their book. Books will be available to be purchased and autographed.

SUNDAY, APRIL 5, 2009
6:00pm, THE ENGLISH MANOR, OCEAN, NJ

GSFF Awards Dinner, honoring SID BERNSTEIN, JOEY TRAVOLTA, and CHRISTOPHER DEBLASIO, who will be given the Robert Pastorelli award. Tickets are $120 in advance.
