Clean Ocean Action Celebrates 25 Years of Ocean Advocacy

Citizens Invited to Launch a Year of Action – February 28

Sandy Hook, NJ – Celebrating 25 years of landmark efforts to clean and protect the waters off New Jersey and New York, Clean Ocean Action (COA) is hosting an event to kick-off this milestone anniversary year. Citizens are invited to launch a year of action and create a “new wave” of ocean advocacy, at a special celebration on February 28, 2009 from 7-11pm at Langosta Lounge in historic Asbury Park, NJ.

“Our 25 years prove that it’s all about people power,” said Cindy Zipf, COA Executive Director. “Citizens recognize the importance of a clean ocean not only to the health of our families and critters, but also to the health of our multi-billion dollar coastal economy. It is citizens and their actions that have contributed to the success made in ocean protection and who can help to further improve and protect the ocean,” she added.

Partygoers will enjoy tasty vacation inspired bites by Langosta Lounge and live music from deSol and Predator Dub Assassins. A highlight of the event will be Pollution Solution Action Stations where guests will pledge and learn simple steps to help green the planet. Throughout 2009, COA will inspire 25,000 citizens, small and tall, to pledge 25 ways to save the ocean, from signing online and paper petitions, cleaning beaches of unsightly debris, to enjoying seaside fun at a COA event. Suggested actions will be included in a booklet to be debuted at the party.

“I can think of no better way to celebrate my 25th anniversary in the restaurant industry than with an organization that represents and fights for the ocean and beaches that are so near and dear to my heart. My world and business revolve around the ocean and without organizations like COA I would not have the beautiful coastline to draw tourists and customers,” said Marilyn Schlossbach, owner of Langosta Lounge. “From the beginning, I have worked with Cindy Zipf and Clean Ocean Action promoting environmental advocacy and Beach Sweeps in my restaurants. I look forward to another 25 years of partnership with the organization.”

“Tickets for this one-of-a-kind event to bring Clean Ocean Action into the next generation represent a dollar per year of seaworthy work,” said Jennifer Smiga, COA Events & Development Director. “We invite ocean advocates to join in this special celebration.”

Tickets are $25 and will be issued upon payment. No payments will be accepted at the event and space is limited. Reservations are available at http://www.cleanoceanaction.org, or by mailing a check with contact information to: Clean Ocean Action, 18 Hartshorne Drive, Suite 2, Highlands, NJ 07732. Or, for more information, call 732-872-0111.
