Coast Guard crew medevacs 1 near Manasquan, N.J. January 27th 2009

MANASQUAN, N.J. – The Coast Guard medevaced a 53-year-old male Tuesday from aboard a 65-foot fishing boat five miles off the coast of Manasquan.

Deceased is Billy Melgrum.

The Coast Guard received a call at 10:28 a.m from a crew member aboard the Lydia J  reporting Melgrum injured both his legs, went into shock and needed medical assistance.

A New Jersey State Police rescue boat crew arrived on scene and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Melgrum. A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Manasquan Inlet, N.J., arrived on scene and transferred Melgrum from the New Jersey State Police boat to their boat where they continued CPR.

The Coast Guard boat crew transported Melgrum to Coast Guard Station Manasquan Inlet were he was pronounced deceased by awaiting medical personnel.
