UPDATE Hurricane Bertha Upgraded Again July 19, 2008

This storm is of no consequence but it is amazing how long we have been tracking it! Since July 7th!

Hurricane season is upon us. Better batten down the hatches and get ready for some fun weather in the near future. I will let the professionals do the real forcasting but lets look at what you need to know in case it hit the Shore. As we have learned even a Tropic Storm or Nor Easter can cause massive trouble in Avalon & Wildwood just with a storm surge.

AT 1100 PM AST...0300Z...THE CENTER OF HURRICANE BERTHA WAS LOCATED
NEAR LATITUDE 39.5 NORTH...LONGITUDE 48.8 WEST OR ABOUT 545 MILES...
875 KM...SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF CAPE RACE NEWFOUNDLAND.

BERTHA IS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTHEAST NEAR 25 MPH...41 KM/HR...AND
THIS GENERAL MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF
DAYS WITH AN INCREASE IN FORWARD SPEED.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 75 MPH...120 KM/HR...WITH HIGHER
GUSTS.  BERTHA SHOULD SLOWLY WEAKEN OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS AND
BEGIN TO LOSE TROPICAL CHARACTERISTICS ON SATURDAY.

HURRICANE FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 45 MILES...75 KM...FROM
THE CENTER...AND TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 175
MILES...280 KM.

ESTIMATED MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE IS 989 MB...29.21 INCHES.

REPEATING THE 1100 PM AST POSITION...39.5 N...48.8 W.  MOVEMENT
TOWARD...NORTHEAST NEAR 25 MPH.  MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS...75 MPH.
MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE...989 MB.

THE NEXT ADVISORY WILL BE ISSUED BY THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER AT
