New Jersey Marathon Weekend

~ hosted by the City of Long Branch ~

May 2, 3 and 4, 2008

What is the New Jersey Marathon Weekend?

The New Jersey Marathon Weekend, staged by the New Jersey Road Runners Club (NJRRC), consists of three days of events held to benefit various children’s charities. There are activities appropriate for all ages and levels of fitness; (see below Schedule of Events.)

Which charities will benefit from the New Jersey Marathon Weekend?

The New Jersey Shore Marathon, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit organization (and charitable organization as recognized by the State of NJ) pledging to benefit local and regional children’s charities such as:

Long Branch Recreation Department programs
the Long Branch and Monmouth Beach Police Explorers
Family & Children’s Services of Monmouth County, Inc.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Monmouth and Cumberland Counties
Interfaith Hospitality Network
and other local and regional charities that are listed on the NJM website.

For 2008 they are also benefiting Global Hepatitis Awareness and will be a “kick-off” event in North America for Global Hepatitis Awareness Month.

Who participates in these events?

In their first 11 years, they have had over 35,000 people of all ages and abilities enter the various events. Since this is a family-oriented weekend, their participants are generally accompanied by a spouse, as well as kids. Add to these numbers tens of thousands of volunteers and spectators through the neighborhoods of Long Branch and Monmouth Beach and at the oceanfront Finish Line. Each year entrants have come from nearly 400 New Jersey towns and over 45 states and 10+ foreign countries.

New Jersey Shore Marathon, Inc. is now going through a growth spurt with a registration of 2,000 in ’05, 4,000 in ’06, 7,000 in ’07 and an expected 9,000 in ’08.
